Workshops on this week's schedule:
Hello again, friends! Summer may be over, but the fun doesn't have to end with it. We're launching into our list of fall workshops this week with two unique workshops. The first will be about how to create a lovely centerpiece for Rosh Hashanah (or any autumnal celebration), and the second on how to dye silk scarves with botanical pigments. We approach all of our workshops as opportunities for education, so we welcome participants of all experience levels. Also, the registration fee covers the cost of all materials and supplies. All you need to bring is yourself, and a touch of excitement. So, without further ado, let's get started.
9/15: Rosh Hashanah / Fall Celebration Centerpiece
This Friday, Michael Derouin AAF, AIFD, PFCI, CAFA, the head of our Floral Design department will lead a workshop that teaches you how to design a fresh floral centerpiece for your table. Whether you're celebrating Rosh Hashanah, or just having a harvest-time dinner party, you'll love this workshop. Michael will begin by illustrating some floral design techniques using seasonal blooms, berries, branches and more. Then he'll assist you as you create your own centerpiece. You're welcome to register with friends, and attend as a group, or meet some new ones during the workshop. If you take a look at the picture in the upper right hand corner of the screen, you'll see a centerpiece from our Fall Collection . That'll give you an idea of the kind of centerpieces we create at McArdle's. Yours will, of course, be unique! Michael will select materials specifically for the workshop, and as you work your piece will become your own. If you're interested in signing up, click here to access the sign up page. The registration fee for this workshop is $100.
9/16: Silk Scarf Dyeing with Monique Michaels
For this workshop, we'll be bringing in Monique Michaels an textile artist who specializes in dyeing with natural materials. She creates organic, handmade goods using plants, flowers, barks and insect based dyes and fibers such as cotton, muslin, linen, and silk. All pieces are designed, dyed, and crafted in small batches, making them truly one of a kind. For more on Monique visit her website by clicking here. Monique will teach participants the basics of the dyeing process including choosing the right material, selecting dye ingredients, and more. You'll finish up by using what you've learned to create your own bundle dyed silk scarf with natural materials including some McArdle's flowers that are past their prime. This workshop can get a little messy, so be sure to dress accordingly! The registration fee for this workshop is $95, and you can register by clicking here. What could be more fun than a Saturday morning of vibrant and creative fun?
